Inside the 2011-2012 Adicora Photoshoot!

This year’s collection was inspired by the beauty of nature itself: exotic flowers, leopard print, and galaxy themed details. We had the privilege to work again with Kyle Goldie to shoot our 2011 – 2012 swimwear collection. Adicora’s designer Niveen Heaton envisioned this year’s campaign to be shot indoors with a modern backdrop created by gigantic origami flowers, handmade by Origami Artist Rebecca Ashburn. Each of the dozens of lilies, roses and lotus flowers were folded individually and delicately by hand. After hours and hours of folding, Rebecca hand delivered the beautiful flowers herself, and created another dozen small roses for the head pieces used in the 4th Annual Forbidden Fashion Show.

“I spent over 100 hours creating all of the origami for Adicora. In preliminary discussions with designer Niveen Heaton, we wanted a bold and distinctive look with a summery theme. We decided on origami butterflies, a big origami sun, and origami flowers…I am so happy to have worked with Adicora.” - Rebecca Ashburn.

After the flowers were brought to the studio and built into the backdrop, it was Kyle’s turn to do his magic. He used his expertise to make sure each shot came out with clean, modern and without harsh shadows. This technique is what made our models stand out with their bright suits and contrast with the white back drop.

We asked Kyle how he thought the shoot went: “It was a really fun shoot. We had some really fun models and the origami inspiration idea, which was done by Niveen Heaton, was phenomenal. I was kind of skeptical at the start because I have never worked with origami while I’m trying to light the fashion on the model. But it gave a great 3 dimensional look to the campaign. So I was very pleased with the shots.”

Hair and Makeup Artist Jenny Bowker truly went above and beyond on the set. She was on set during every shot, making sure not a single hair was misplaced! She made sexy beach curls on one of our models Natalie, and a sleek and sexy pony tail on Gabriela to show off the backs of the suits, which later matched the hair of the Forbidden Fashion Show. Jenny applied this season’s hot look, bold bright eyeliner, using hues like electric blue and hot pink paired with light pink lip gloss. It was a perfect daring look to combine with this year’s Adicora collection!

Jenny shared her advice to get this great look:
“For the Adicora shoot I wanted Natalie to look bronzed and beachy, but still sophisticated and edgy- just like the brand! Get the look by setting hair in hot rollers, while they cool apply a tinted moisturizer, cream bronzer onto forehead, nose, cheeks and chin (blend onto the neck!) dampen an eyeliner brush and dip into a bright melon or coral eyeshadow and apply in a thick retro line across top lashes. Layer on black mascara, peachy blush on the apples of the cheeks and a sheer nude or peach gloss.”

Thank you all, we couldn’t have done it without all the hard work of everyone involved in this photo shoot, and would especially like to thank Kyle Goldie, Rebecca Ashburn and Jenny Bowker for their unfailing dedication on and off the set.
