Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney was included in manager Fabio Capello's squad to Switzerland despite newspaper reports that he bedded a prostitute while wife Coleen was pregnant with their first child.
A spokesman for electronic game firm EA Sports, one of Rooney's sponsors, said yesterday: 'This is a personal matter and we respect Wayne and his family's privacy. We have worked together for six years and Wayne continues to represent EA Sports. We will be making no further comment at this time.'
The woman at the centre of the sex scandal, prostitute Jennifer Thompson, also broke cover this afternoon. She had come forward to claim she had sex with him at the same time as Coleen was expecting their son Kai, now ten months old.
The news has placed the Rooney marriage in severe jeopardy and the footballer is facing damage to the family-oriented ‘brand’ he and his wife have carefully nurtured, making them a fortune estimated at £33million.
Miss Thompson was quoted in two Sunday newspapers as claiming that she had seven sexual encounters in four months with Rooney last year.
The vice girl, known as ‘Juicy Jeni’, claimed Rooney paid her £1,200 in cash each time.
Miss Thompson, from Bolton, added: ‘Wayne chased me with sex texts and paid in wads of cash. He didn’t seem to care he was betraying Coleen.’
She claimed that she met Rooney at the Manchester 235 Casino in June last year.
According to her version of events, the pair embarked on their relationship after the footballer called her over to the casino’s VIP area and they slipped off to the smoking area to kiss. He later asked her to meet up by text message.
She and another prostitute met Rooney at the five-star Lowry hotel in Salford and told him he would have to pay, she claimed.
Miss Thompson told the News of the World: ‘Wayne told us he’d never had a threesome before. He was shy and awkward.’
She said the couple met at the same hotel two weeks later. After having sex, Rooney wanted a cigarette. He called a member of hotel staff to the room and handed over £200 for a packet of Marlboro.
Rooney continued to meet Miss Thompson for sex over the following months, contacting her by untraceable pay-as-you-go phones and paying in cash, she said. He would order champagne and food by room service at the hotel. She described the sex as ‘boring’.
